Correctional Facilities

            English report on correctional facilities.
Report on the effects of individuals on institutions offer a rigid and structured life experience. This type of lifestyle has physical and psychological effects on many individuals, especially in the case of punitive institutions such jails, correctional facility and detention centres. .
This study has focussed heavily on the experience of brett a 16 year old boy sentenced to the correctional facility, the farm, as detailed in the well known book RAW by Scott Monk.
Brett, who was the latest criminal to enter the farm, didn't quite adapt to the farm as quick as the others did and also that he is quite stubborn. This affected his stay greatly. He was not used to following the rules, if you broke rules on the farm there were prices to pay but not only for you but also for all the detainees that were in the farm at the moment. Eg when Brett ran away the detainees were not allowed to go to pool for a month. The detainees then showed Brett how much they appreciated it. These experiences in the farm would have an enormous effect on a young boys mind causing weird behaviour. Which later caused brett to be sent to a real jail all due to initial problems of the children not being looked after inside the correctional facility. This is similar to the situation to that of which is happening in Australia's detention centre. That is that the detainees are not being treated correctly like on the television program "seeking asylum" on sbs TV. The detainees in this program were reacting angrily about many things but one of the major being that they were not being treated correctly "like animals". Many detainees were sewing their mouths together, cutting themselves and drinking shampoo. This was all due to the way that they were being treated.
Something has to be done to improve the current situation regarding the correctional and detention centres in Australia otherwise problems are going to arise due to the miss-management in the start.
