Odysses Essay
The Odyssey is an epic story that has been a significant piece of literature since it was first written and will remain so for ages to come. One of the reasons it has been so is because of the hero, Odysseus. Odysseus is one of the first Greek mythic heroes renowned for his brain as well as his muscle, thus his popular title of the ‘Schemer’. Indeed he is a man with an inquiring mind, and he is also a man with outstanding prowess and bravery. He is also a top-notch athlete, which only adds more to this seemingly unbeatable character. Odysseus seemed insuperable because not only his great strength and brains, but also his connections with the Gods; in this essay, it’ll be shown how all these great traits of Odysseus makes him the most powerful hero ever to be written.Strength is something Odysseus knows he has, and knows its limits. In the story, Odysseus used his brain and strength as one. This is shown with the Cyclops on their great island. “Fortunately, however, further thinking pushed my hands from my weapon, for if I had killed him, then Death would soon have come for us as well. Who besides the mighty Cyclops could move the rock that sealed the entrance to the cave?” (82). If Odysseus had been pig
Gods actually are a symbol of what we face in real life, every day. Athena being Odysseus’s wisdom, Helios the jealousy hidden in our curiosity, Calypso the temptation we face, and Poseidon the challenges in life we face everyday. These main Gods play an essential role in Odysseus’s life. Also Zeus played a large role in the story by helping Odysseus and giving him help when needed. Athena also gives sympathy for Odysseus, and takes a shot at sympathizing with Zeus. “My heart aches for wise Odysseus, that unfortunate, unhappy man. Calypso has confined him against his will to her wooded island. Why are you so angry with him that you permit Calypso to restrain him? Did he not offer you generous sacrifices in the land of the horse-taming Trojans?” (78) Athens finally got Zeus to let Odysseus go and have him sail home. The catch of it was that Zeus would let Odysseus go home, but at the mercy of his brother, Posiden. Zeus was very sure that Posiden would punish Odysseus and that would be sufficient. “But let us plan to start the long-suffering Odysseus on his journey homeward. It is time for the lord of the sea to soften his heart; he will not be able to defy the will of al the gods.” (78) Zeus trusts that his brother, Posiden, will not keep Odysseus at bay for long, for the fact that most of the Gods like Odysseus. This is the only thing that keeps Posiden from killing Odysseus. Nonetheless, Odysseus survived all that happened to him. His courage, wits, and endurance enabled him to come through each and every difficulty and arrive home safely. Odysseus seemed insuperable because not only his great strength and brains, but also his connections with the Gods. Thou it was not purely Odysseus that made this story great, It was the bonding of the characters. The wife, Penelope, whom stayed true to her husband. The son, Telemachus, whom loved his father even thou he has never seen him. The Gods, whom out of rage or lack of anything better to do, interfered with a mortals life to make him, the greatest hero literature ever seen. Being intellige
