Paintball Narrative

Paintball is a game unlike any other I have ever experienced. To play well, one must have several important skills. When playing as a member of a team, you must learn to communicate well with your team. When playing a game, if someone tries to be the superhero and play aggressively, taking out all other opponents, they won’t get very far. The team wouldn’t work well together, and most likely lose the game. Teamwork is one of the most important parts of any game, especially paintball.

I still remember the first game of paintball I ever played in. I was playing with five of my friends at my friend Greg’s house. I was 14 years old at the time. After a trip to Wal-Mart to buy paintballs and Co2 cartridges, we went back to Greg’s house and walked into the woods behind his house. We walked until we came into a large open area of grass, with a few scattered trees, and denser woods surrounding the field on all sides. We chose this area, thinking we would have the perfect open space to play in, but still have places to hide behind if needed.

The six people playing that day were Matt, Craig, Steve, Seth, Greg, and myself. We got our guns ready by filling the paintball hoppers full, pu

I moved through the woods, now coming closer to the other team. Hiding behind large trees as I walked, I was able to come closer to the other players without them seeing me. They were now within my range, and I had fair shots at both Steve and Greg. Seth was furthest away, ducked down behind brush, being the hardest of all to hit.

After shooting, I quickly ducked back behind the tree, just in time to avoid being hit by about ten paintballs fired in my direction. These shots flew past me, breaking as they fell into the brush just feet from where I stood. Matt and Craig were now popping off shots, but Greg and Steve ducked quickly as they flew harmlessly over their heads. My teammates were holding Steve and Greg ducked down with their shots, and I fan from my spot, funning as fast I could through the woods and back to where Matt and Craig were.

The teams were now even, with two players left on each side. Every one still had enough paintballs to play for a long time, so we continued for a few minutes shooting back and forth, trying to shoot the other team. Matt was about fifteen feet away from me. He had a good position, crouched down on the slope of a small hill. I jumped up, and moved over to him. I hid behind a close tree.

Greg and Steve must have seen us talking, because they moved together and began talking too. We took the time to change Co2 cartridges and began discussing what we should do next. The other team got up and moved to a new spot, slightly closer to us.
