Parenthood
The film, "Parenthood" depicts the trials, challenges, laughs and tears created by the ups and downs of parenting. With an example of a typical American extended family, Ron Howard depicts how the reality of parenthood differs from the typically pictured ideal family. A father, scared by his father struggles to raise his three children; a high-strung little leaguer, vivacious daughter and an easily entertained toddler keep Gil torn between being the father his father wasn't, being the husband his wife needs, and the business man his career demands. On the flip side of Gil's children's academic limitations, his brother's daughter life is filled with scholastics, flash cards and intellectual stimulants.... to bad she's only in pre-school. Her deficit comes out in her antisocial behavior and inability to relate to children her own age. Then, to extend the dysfunction, Gil's sister’s kids expose the teenage trials yet to come. Julie, the sexually active rebel, and Gary, the scary hermit keep the single parent mother busy as she struggles to cope with raising children alone. 5) What challenges did the movie show? How will these challenges affect you in the future? All and all, I don’t think my parents have done to bad in raising me. I’m not perfect; but who is? From birth till now, they’ve [provide for my needs both physically and emotionally. They educated me, taught me right from wrong, and how to behave. I develop properly, physically, cognately, socially, and emotionally. Therefore, I would be proud to raise my future children, as my parents have raised me; and I thank my parents for all their work thus far. 6) Will you raise your children they same way your parents raised you? Frank made a single statement that should be tattooed on every new parent’s forehead. " He’s still my son, it [parenting] never ends." A parent is a parent, from birth till death, in my book. The road doesn’t end at eighteen, or when they marry off, and even when they have children of their own, it continues. Your child is always your child. Larry, Frank’s youngest son, finds himself in trouble with a gambling addiction and large in large debt. Larry’s broke, and has only the flesh of his bones to settle the score, but Frank, his father, steps in. He offers to allow Larry to enter the family business, and then will pay the debt off, and in time turn the business over to him; at the same time, he also ends up raising his grandson, Cool.
