Paternity Fraud

There is a new type of fraud going on in America today, it has nothing to do with insurance or phony salesmen trying to sell a bogus product. It has to do, sadly enough with children. The article that I read was about paternity fraud, it was called “Fair Is Fair, But its Often Sad, Too”, by Kathleen Parker. Parker’s view point in her article is basically neutral, she thinks that while paternity fraud is wrong, but she not only argues on the fathers side she also has strong arguments backing the mother and children’s side of this very controversial issue. Mothers who collect money from a man who is not the father should be punished because it not only ruins the fathers economic situation, it also damages the child and father emotionally.

In Orlando Florida, a man named Carnell Smith, who has a good job, he is married with two children. He also thought that he had another child with another women, he paid child support voluntarily for ten years, he paid over $80,000, He also was a part of his daughters life. In 1999 the mother of his so-called daughter took him to court to try and get more money from him, 42 percent of his pay. Until one day while driving he spotted a bill board about DNA testing, on a feeling he and his

The emotional damage done to not only Carnell, but his so called daughter of ten years must be devastating. Could you imagine if your father was not really your father? That must be so devastating to that little girl, to go your whole life living in a lie that your own mother created to make money. It is totally wrong for a mother to do that to what is supposed to be the most important thing in her life, her child. How can someone do that just for money? She made a mistake and got pregnant, so I think that if she was permisquis and got pregnant and did not know that the child was his she should have to care for it by herself.

The article itself really does not take a position on the topic of paternity fraud, it more or less explains this one mans struggle with it. The author, Kathleen Parker does not take a position on either side of the issue. She basically says that it is sad because when a mother does this it not only ruins the fathers life, it also ruins the child’s life because the loose a father. She also makes comments on the moral issues this touchy subject brings up, Such as marriage and the responsibilities a parent has. Parker brings good points up such as how does a father just stop loving a child he thought to be his for ten yea
