This trait is portrayed mainly when she refers to Mr. Kraler and Miep. Anne shows empathy when she writes, “I asked Father what would happen to them [Miep and Mr. Kraler] if the Nazi’s found out they were hiding us. Pim said they would suffer the same fate that we would…imagine! They know this, and yet when they come up here, they are always cheerful and gay as if there were nothing in the world to bother them.” (p. 14) This shows how much Anne cares about other people. It also tells us that she is always thinking about others, rather than herself. She could have easily put herself in a worse position than her protectors by saying the Jews sacrificed the most by being endangered. Instead, she thought about those helping her and her family through the war, which shows how grateful she is. People in general should take this example very seriously because people will respect you more, and want to be around you, if you are empathetic. Anne must have been a very understanding person, because she knew that listening to other people was very important.
