Throughout the tale, Kongming’s role has proven to be the most powerful because of his strategic abilities and many attributes to Liu Bei’s success. There seemed to be no contender that was comparable to him in knowledge and strategic skills except Sima Yi, the Wei advisor. Sima Yi’s abilities was not equal to that of the Sleeping Dragon, although he knew of Kongming’s traps, he fell victim to many. Both strategists knew that their kingdom will not expand if the other lived. Although the expeditions consisted of killing and fighting, Sima Yi and Kongming were battling with their intellects and predictions. Many of times, Sima Yi was near death but fate would have it otherwise. In the end Kongming is defeated not by Sima Yi, but by the will of heaven.
