Rememberance
Thanksgiving rolled around in November, just as it had since the beginning of time. But the Thanksgiving of 1999 is one that I will always remember. I figured that it would be the same normal tradition at first. Hours waiting on dinner, eating the same stuff we ate every Thanksgiving. An array of mixed, colorful vegetables, yams, stuffing and a large, juicy, plumped Tom turkey. Not to mention the mouthwatering deserts which normally include apple and pumpkin pie. After dinner we would all gather around the television as normal and watch the football games. In particular, the Detroit Lions who would host either Green Bay, Minnesota, Dallas, or the Chicago Bears. Those were only teams that they have ever played on turkey day since 1938. But on this particular year it was completely different from the norm. My father, a Detroit Lions fan since he came out of the womb, had a little present to show all of us the Monday before Thanksgiving Day. We were all sitting in the living room watching the television when my dad walks in the house. He came in without saying a word standing in front of the TV. My mom, about to tell him to move, was interrupted when he gave us all these white envelope

I slowly stood up and said a few words that broke the silence. “Holy Shit” I yelled throughout the household. Right then my mom turned toward me and gave me a smack on my leg as a sign of disapproval. Inside the envelope was a plane ticket to Detroit Michigan to depart Wednesday at 12pm. Then I saw a silver and blue ticket that would get us into the legendary Pontiac Silver Dome, the home of the Lions. At that moment, I don’t think we have ever given him such a higher praise, for he was a god. Stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey we walked to the legendary stadium. We entered the gates in the north entrance and took our seats the middle bowl in section 218. As the game begun I could feel the power of some 80,000 pumped, football loving fans cheering for their respectful teams. I couldn’t believe that my family would then be part of a long tradition. At the end of the fourth quarter the scoreboard read Lions 21 Bears 17. We all rejoiced as if we just won a long battle. High fives, hugs, and loud whistles from the fans bombarded my eardrums. But it didn’t bother me. I was living it up because I knew that it possibly wont happen again, or at least on Thanksgiving. As everything does as you look forward to it, the time tends to slow down.
