One could compare and contrast the essays in terms of the authors’ views on cloning. In “To Clone or Not to Clone,” which is in the book Clones and Clones, Jean Bethke Elshtain does not believe cloning should be allowed. Elshtain does not understand why people would want to go through the whole cloning process. For example, what would one say to a child who is the replica of a deceased child? “What happens when the child learns they are the pinch hitter?” she says. Jean continues to say, “There was an earlier Tommy, much loved, so mommy and daddy had a copy made.” (

The two essays are different in some ways but also the same. The two authors agree that cloning will take away from individual uniqueness. The stories also mention the threat of a million Hitlers and Mozarts running around the world. In the essay, “To Clone or not to Clone,” Elshtain emphazies that cloning should be banned and no questions should be asked. On the other hand, Callahan believes that there are disadvantages and advantages to cloning. He is not ready to put a ban on cloning because he thinks that it may help us in the future.
