Samuel Adams Biography

"He eats little, drinks little, sleeps little, thinks much, and is most indefatigable in

the pursuit of his object, managed at once the factions in congress at Philadelphia, and the

factions of New-England." An unnamed author wrote this in his historical and political

reflections of the American Rebellion, published in Great Britain, 1780. This quote gives

you a better understanding of the devotion and patriotism of Samuel Adams.

Samuel Adams was born in Massachusetts on September 22nd, 1722. He grew up

as a member of a very distinguished family, which had emigrated to America with the

very first settlers of the land. His family has given two presidents to the United States.

Samuel Adams's genius for showed at an early age. He had always thought of

politics as inspiring, and it always occupied his thoughts. He later became one of

America's greatest politicians and leaders during this Revolutionary Period.

Adams became a member at Harvard University in 1736. He was distinguished

for all his collegiate exercises, as well as his classical and scientific attainments. Upon

leaving Harvard, Samuel began to study law. This did not last long; and he ended his


Adams to abandon the cause of truth, or to hazard the liberties of the people. He

Congress until 1781, and his last political position was governor of Massachusetts, which

with the gift of some lucrative office in the British parliament. Britain knew of Adams's

member of the first Continental Congress, which assembled in Philadelphia in September

credited in proposing the idea for the Albany Plan of Union.
