Smoking: The Real Truth

Smoking is defined as the practice of inhaling the fumes of tobacco from burning cigarettes. Being such an addicted substance smoking has become one of the leading causes of cancer today. The American Cancer Society says the 53 million people age 12 and over smoke cigarettes. About 45 million of those people would like to quit. Each year, some 1.5 million teens start to smoke. Even though a large percent of today’s population smoke there are many proven reasons why they should not.

In resent studies, curiosity, peer pressure and addiction were words used to describe why some people start smoking. As young individuals teens are curious as to what it is like to smoke so they try it out. Some young individuals feel pressure from their friends so they try smoki


By quitting smoking, individuals will decrease the risk of cancers, heart disease, stroke and chronic lung diseases. You will have easier breathing, more energy, enhanced sense of taste and smell and will also save over $1,000.00 a year. When you do quit smoking your cloths, hair, car and closet will be free from smoking fumes. By knowing all these benefits of quitting it’s a wonder why some people start smoking.

Those that continue to smoke are unaware that they taking over 4,000 chemical compounds into their lungs. Three of the most damaging chemicals in tobacco are nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide. Nicotine is a poison. When used in tobacco products it acts as a stimulant. It speeds up a person’s heart and central nervous system and also decreases the amount of blood and oxy
