Should The Virgin Mary At Medjugorje Be Taken Seriously?

On the afternoon of June 24, 1981, two girls, Ivanka Ivankovic, 15 years old and Marjana Dragicevic, 16 years old, from the Bijakovici section of Medugorje were returning home from a walk. Looking towards the hill called Crnica, Ivanka saw a bright silhouette of a woman. She said to Mirjana, "It is the Gospa!," which means Our Lady. Marijana would not look and they both ran off in fear.

That evening around 6:00 PM they returned with four others. They all saw her on the hill above. That evening, their families and friends laughed at them thinking it was some kind of childish prank. On June 25, the following day, the two girls and four others: Vicka Ivankovic who was 16 and Ivan Dragicevic who was also 16, who were present at the second apparition of June 24, plus Maria Pavlovic, and Jakov Colo who came for the first time. The white figure on the hill beckoned them to approach. The six seers were seen to run up the hill so fast that it were as if they had been carried up the hill by some mysterious force.

Since that day, thirteen years ago, the Blessed Virgin Mary has continued to appear to the children almost every day since and sometimes more than once a day. As part

Mary said that we must pray for our own conversion, the conversion of sinners, for peace, and for protection from the devil who seeks to destroy as many souls as possible. Our Lady wants us to pray the entire rosary every day. Our prayers must not be rambling on, but we must pray with the heart. She also requests that we pray 7 Our Fathers, 7 Hail Marys, 7 Glory be’s and the Creed daily for peace; reading of the Scriptures and personal communication with God.

One reason this could be true is that she is part of the holy family, and like God and Jesus did, she is revealing herself to people on Earth. God appeared to people and told them secrets about his kingdom and his coming to Earth. When Jesus died, he made appearances to people also. One example is his appearance to Paul. This could be the time that Mary, the other member of the holy family, reveals herself and her secrets to people on Earth. She must have a message for us as the other members of the holy family did. Why did she chose these people to reveal herself? Probably the same reason God revealed himself to Abraham and the Jews. For her own reasons which we will never find out.

I have never heard of this before, about the Virgin Mary at Medjugorje, but it seems credible to me. There are many reasons that these appearances could be real.

The messages of our Lady can be summed up in a few words: conversion, faith, prayer, fasting, peace and reconciliation.

Maybe appearances come to women. In Jesus’ case, he revealed himself to Mary Magdalene and told her secrets no one else knew. Mary came down to two young females and revealed herself to them. Maybe, they reveal themselves to women because it would be more unbelievable if women told the stories of the comings of Mary and Jesus. They want people to believe women because they know that it is easier to believe men. I
