The Holocaust

There are many aspects to the Holocoust. When people think holocoust they automatically think Adolof Hitler and gas chambers. Now, a lot of people imagine the big cement room with spouts sticking out over head. This is one of many forms. I'm going to talk about three major things: the versions of gas chambers, who was gassed, and the whole process in general.

On September 1, 1939, 61 years agao, Germans invaded Poland, beginning WWII. This invasion presented the opportunity for persecution of Jews. The vast majority of Polands population was Jewish. This being so, Jews became the Nazi's special target. As the years went on the extermination process went from slave labor to Endolosung, which translates to " The Final Solution." You may be wondering, what's the "Final Soloution?" Well the "Final Soltion" was the German's last attempt to wipe out all Jews. The Germans wanted to increase the capacity at which they were killing Jews. So their main objective was to find a way to speed up the extermination process. That's where Gas Chambers come in; they were the "Final Solution."

The official plan for gas chambers came into play in 1941. By that summer, gas chambers were in full effect. The form of a gas chamber changed over the y

eaers. They went from vans, to basements and eventually bigger and more effcient building. The newer buildings made gassing masses of people bossible. The older models could only hold about 600, unlike the newer models that could accommodate 4,000 people.

Who all was killed you ask? Well everyone who was killed was not Jewish. Gypsies adn anyone outside of teh Arayn race were victims. There were also specific people they'd kill. Most people killed were women, children, the sick, elderly and the handicapped. Working men were used to take the dead bodies to teh crematoriums. A crematorium is a gigantic furnace where the germans would burn the dead bodies. Anyway, the selection process was simple: if you were a woman, sick, elderly,a child, or handicapped, you were to stand to the left. Everyone else to the right. Most people on the right were middle-aged men and young men. There would also be the occasional matured female with a special talent or skill such as sewing. The Nazi's would accept a male no younger than 13 or 14 years of age. Naturally many boys lied about their age and skill. One thing that really pushes my buttons is the fatc that women didn't stand much of a chance.

Now as one bunch was being gassed others were waiting patiently , for their uncertain death. Though the chambers had been modernized they weren't sound proof. Zyklon-B had a bitter almond like smell .Once the people got a whiff tehy would make the connection with teh previous victims and they'd begin to go hysterical. Those waiting could hear the cries of the other victims adn instinctively they'd want to run. Unfortuanetly those who ran were shot if they were lucky, if not they were att
