The Human Condition

The title of the document is known as “The Human Condition.” It was

written on August 12, 1950 by Pope Pius XII. It was written about

false opinions threatening to undermine the foundations of catholic

doctrine. The catholic people during this time, were starting to form

their own ideas about Catholicism. This caused a huge problem

between church leaders and their parishes because they simply did

not take the Bible seriously and did not believe or have faith in the

many things Catholics are called to believe.

There were many things happening during this time that may

have caused many Catholics to change their beliefs such as the

Korean War and the Cold War. Both wars were causing an immense

amount of bloodshed and many Americans were thinking about how

the wars would affect America and God’s plan. The 1950’s was also a

time for individual thinking and humanist ideas. This caused Catholics

to question every aspect of their daily lives including religion.
