The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe By C.S. Lewis
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are four young evacuees from London, England during World War II. They have been evacuated to an old estate in the country. The estate is the home of a rather, dear, old gentleman named Professor Kirk. Although the chi;ldren are saddened by leaving their parents in London, they are all excited about their change in environment. All except Edmund who would have rather stayed in London. On their arrival at Professor Kirk's estate they are met by a very disagreeable housekeeper named Mrs. Macready. Mrs. Macready is very put out by the children and does not want them to interfere with her social duties and her standing with her society ladies. Mrs. Macready tells them which rooms are off limits and they are not to be seen or heard when she has guests in the house. The next day the weathe
r is terrible and the children are forced to play in doors. Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy play a game of hide and seek. Lucy hides in the wardrobe in the s! pareroom. As she goes deeper in the wardrobe she finds herself standing next to a lamppost with snow all around. Lucy meets a faun named Mr. Tumnus. She befriends him and learns the sad tale of Narnia and why it is always winter but never Christmas. Narnia is under the spell of the White Witch. Lucy returns to the wardrobe and brings Edmund with her. WHile she visits Mr. Tumnus, Edmund comes under the spell of the White Witch who promisies him he will be King of Narnia if he brings his brother and two sisters to her and not to Aslan. The next day as Mrs. Macready brings her visitors upstairs the four hide in the wardrobe and enter Narnia. Lucy leads them
