Tito

The Post World War II climate of the Balkan state of Yugoslavia was at best an unstable one. Only a charismatic leader like Tito could have united such a diverse collection of cultures. After defeating the Nazi occupation with little or no help from the Allies, " the partial assistance given by the Soviet army to the Yugoslav army in 1944-45 had no bearing on the development of events in Yugoslavia," vucinich 45 it was unclear as to what course of development Yugoslavia would take. Ten years of war have demonstrated just how deep the seeds of hate are planted in the hearts of these people. Despite their differences, the people of this land are ethnically Slavs. Given their common bond with the Soviets who are also Slavs, it was little surprise when Yugoslavia emerged as a communist state. What did surprise the world was when in 1948 Josip Tito declared Yugoslavia's break with the Soviet Union. .

They had their own war heroes, such as Tito, and they were not about to sheepishly fall in line behind the Soviets like the Hungarians and Bulgarians had done. .
Another reason for the split was due to the idea that the Soviets had lost sight of the guiding lights of Marxism and Leninism. Yugoslav historians were therefore put in a difficult position.
