Theosophy

Theosophy is a way of thinking that mirrors many forms of philosophical thought. It combines metaphysics and ethics to feed the mind by ways of reviving soul-memories, developing spiritual intuition and expanding the creative imagination. Theosophy serves to bridge the gap between religion and science. It does so by exploring both religion and science and to search for the principles of nature common to both. It explains things suck as how nature works, why things are the way they are, and what must be achieved in the goal of life. Vaughan gives a definition of Theosophy to be “ a theosophist is one who gives you a theory of God, or the works of God, which has not revelation, but an inspiration of his own for its basis.” What this means is that God and his doings can be explained individually. These meanings don’t come from sacred scriptures or visions from God himself. It is made clear by personal experiences and interpretations. In order to draw these conclusions on!

e must explore both religion and science to brig their minds to a higher level of thinking. Theosophy gives guiding principles that can be achieved through continuing development of the mind. A Theosophist doesn’t see God as an actual

Theosophy isn’t so much a religion, as I stated before, but it is more of a way of thinking and living in order to better your consciousness. The majority of society feels negatively towards Theosophy. Some of the reasons for this are that it is not a true religion. There really isn’t a God figure, and praying isn’t even a part of the lifestyle. Another thing that people (who are misinformed) don’t like is the similarities between Theosophy and Communism. They look at what was done during WWII and get scared that a society might try something like that again. Also people generally don’t like looking past their own lifetime. The ultimate goal of Theosophy can’t and wont’ be reached for centuries. Most people don’t like working for a goal that wont be reached for a period of time that is longer that a human lifetime, even if at all.

being. It is like the ultimate consciousness. An all-knowing and all-powerful force that governs everything. All consciousnesses are striving to become part of this force. A theosophist lives his or her life totally devoted to theosophy, with hopes of moving up a level in consciousness. The only way to do this is to live your life for the good of the community. It is through the prosperity of others that you will become elevated. In a loose sense of the term, Communism can be considered a form of Theosophy, for in both societies everyone is working for a common good. Basically the main idea of this religion, which really isn’t a religion at all (I will explain this later), is that the consciousness will move up in the hierarchy of things as it gains experience and pure knowledge by working with and for others.

Theosophy was founded on September 7, 1875 by Helena Petrovan Blavatsky, Colonel Henery Steel Olcott, and William Quan Judge. They called this new process of thought the Theosophy Society. The official inaugural address was made on November 17, 1875. These three stated that the main purpose was “to collect and diffuse a knowledge of the laws which govern the universe.” (Olcott). N 1877 the first publication was printed “Isis Unveiled”. In 1879 H.P. Blavatsky and Colonel Olcott headed for India to spread their ways of thinking around the world. During the period in which H.P. Blavatsky founded the Theosophy Society the America was going through a period of expansion. People were moving west, railroads were being used more and more. Slavery was also an issue and lots of slaves were running north to escape the hardships of the south. For the rest of the world, the Industrial Revolution was going on and this was a time of many wars. With all of the chaos in the world and all the hardships people would turn to this society for relief. Theosophy offers support from a group and answers to questions that just were not being answered at the time by both means of religion ad scienc
