U.S. Military Presence Overseas

Thesis Statement: U.S. Military risk their lives overseas to provide freedom in the United States.

B. Consequences of no military activities overseas

U.S. Military risk their lives overseas to ensure freedom in the United States. It all begins when a young person makes the choice to join the Armed Forces. Most people join straight out of high school or shortly thereafter. A lot of people look down on people who join the military. Those people think that the military is a way out, and those who join are the people that cannot make it in the “real world”. What people do not stop to realize is that the men and women who take the way out are the ones that provide the freedom for the over lookers.

The military has had a presence overseas since the military was founded well over 200 years ago. Navy ships have patrolled the coasts of foreign countries since the ships were made of wood. A lot of people wonder why the military has such an active

Also, there is a lot of controversy about the recent involvement with China. Granted, the United States was spying on China, but if we did not spy on this country we could lose ground in being the world power. Keeping ahead of China means staying a democracy and not a communist country like China. Therefore, if spying is what it takes to stay ahead of other countries and keep our present way of life then it should be acceptable to the American people.

Military presence is needed overseas to protect precious things that we cannot produce on our own. Currently, there are more than 265,000 military personnel “engaged” in over 135 countries (Buyer 29). One of the biggest controversies people have with military presence is in the Middle East. A lot of people think we should pull all the troops out of the Middle East because many Americans lose their lives there. If the troops are pulled out of the Middle East, we take the chance of losing our oil supply. America without the oil supply from the Middle East would be disastrous.

One thing that keeps the U.S. troops heads held high is the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars).
