After he and his family had been taken to the police station, Bryonn Bain describes an incident with an officer who mocks Bain’s status of being a Harvard student. In this part of the essay Bain uses pathos, by connecting to his audience through his description of his feelings. This is a good way of putting the audience in Bain’s shoes for a moment by describing his mother. The two audiences of Bain’s essay would know how it feels to let a mother down.

ger logical with his writing. Sure he was writing about what happened to him but by contradicting himself he was not logical in proving his point of innocence for himself.

Bain talks about the legal side of the matter and knows his stuff. He knows that the bouncers were out of territory, knows his rights weren’t read, and knew many other legal facts. The question is “does Bain’s facts and knowledge makes him credible in his piece?” Although Bain’s essay may be credible it may not be logical.

Throughout “Walking While Black” Bain mentions his years in college. The first sentence of his essay tells about his educational background and which is later mentioned many times in the essay. Bain writes about his legal background to make himself seem innocent. He emphasizes to his audience that he is a Harvard student. The way Bain comes off is that a Harvard Law student would never commit a crime, so he keeps repeating that he is a law student. Throughout the piece Bain mentions his many accomplishes and educational background to prove his innocence but in Bain’s ninth amendment he then contradicts himself by writing “none of that should matter.” (Bain, 4)If Bain’s many points of accomplishments should not prove his innocence then why does he keep mentioning them I wonder. Bain keeps repeating all his perks in his life as if they should prove his innocence, but after I read his ninth amendment I no longer feel that Bain is no lon!
