This semester we have studied many different philosophers, with as many different philosophies, but one common thread seems to weave its way through all their teachings, the fact that they all attempt to explain the life of mankind. Therefore my view of philosophy is one of explanation. I see philosophy as a tool of understanding, and a method of discovery.

If all peoples were exactly the same, and all values universally accepted, we would still have philosophy. We would still have the application of our universal values to deal with, and only through philosophical examination would we be able to justify our positions, even without dissention. But this is not the case, we all are very different, and our focus originates from a variety of perspectives. The philosopher gives
