A Different Point Of View

In literature there are many different points of views. In each story the author shows you what they think is important by giving you a certain point of view. Whether it is a first person or a third person point of view, there is always a reason the author chose that view. “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce is a story about a man named Peyton Farqurar set during the Civil War. Peyton wanted to burn a bridge being built by the North, and was caught and hung for it. “Guest of a Nation” by Frank O’Connor is a story about 5 men in Ireland during the 1900’s, in war time. These men are watching two prisoners; which in the end are executed. These two stories use very different points of views to show the deaths of the characters. There are many advantages and disadvantages to the points of views of each story.

In “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” we can see and feel what the character feels before his death; which can be a great advantage. This point of view is a third person point of view.
