A Classic American Hero
In the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn author Mark Twain establishes characteristics in Huck Finn that make him a classic American hero. Huck Finn is a good example of a classic American hero because he embodies the characteristics of escape, individuality, and freedom. One characteristic that shows that Huck Finn is a classic American hero is his sense of escape. For example, Huck escapes from Pap on canoe and makes it look like murder (Twain, 36-43). Huck doesn’t respect Pap at all because Pap is stupid and is the town’s drunk. Huck would go to the extreme by staging his death just to escape his father because Pap abuses him. In addition, Huck escapes his whole town by traveling down the Mississippi River on a raft. Huck was determined enough to escape everything in his town and doesn’t want
