Abortion

Abortion is not a social issue of mere preference, but an issue

of life and death. The main controversy is should it be legalized?

Abortion is the termination of pregnancy before birth, resulting in or accompanied by the death of the fetus. Some abortions occur naturally because a fetus does not develop normally, or because the mother has an injury or disorder that prevents her from carrying the pregnancy to full term.

In some countries abortion is legal, in other countries it is a crime. Some people think abortion is brutal murder and others say it is the key to a new world for women. A woman's right to have an abortion is a question of morals, health, politics, and her reproductive rights. However in the court case of “Roe verses Wade” back in January of 1973 the United States Supreme Court overturned all existing abortion laws in the country. Their rulings stated that human offspring are not persons "in the whole sense" any time before birth. The pro-choice people also believe that a fetus is not human, just a mass of tissue.

Pro-lifers on the other hand say that there is scientific evidence that a distinct human is present from the moment of conception. They say an individual’s persona

Decades ago, most parents were chiefly concerned about a pregnancy revealing to the world that their daughter was not chaste. Today, when schools hand out contraceptives--not just on request, but as part of student assemblies--it appears that many parents are chiefly concerned about avoiding responsibility for helping their daughters' to care for their "unwanted" grandchildren.

Abortion is not an eraser to rub out a mistake or an inconvenience. It has more than one victim; women as well as their babies are victims of abortions. A pro-life group said this, “which is better to remember?” “I gave my baby life, and because I loved him, I gave him into the arms of a loving couple” or to remember, “I selfishly ended my baby’s life.” So don’t abort them give them a chance to have a future.

Each year, one million teenagers become pregnant and 85% are unintended. Of all the teenage women who become pregnant, 35% choose to have an abortion. In some states clinics require a legal guardian’s permission to have an abortion. But in other states it is strictly confidential.

Abortion, infanticide, and child abandonment are acts of fear and despair. They are symptoms of a society that does not embrace young mothers and fathers, but instead subjects them to criticism, abuse, and coercion. The only solution is to offer young women and men unconditional love and life-affirming support. That's hard to do, especially in a society that is so enamored with death.
