Addiction
Addiction……drugs, alcohol, life; from the eyes of some one who observes it and experiences it every day. Almost everyone in the world is affected by the wrath of addiction whether it be by themselves, family members, peers, idol’s or enemies. The definition of addiction is, “the quality or state of being addicted.” Which I think is quite an understatement…. In the following I will talk about the stages of addiction, people I know and how they react to addiction, personal experiences as well as different treatment plans and how people react to them. The addiction process and stages of addiction can vary greatly from person to person. Depending on personality type, lifestyle and background they can go from a once a week pot smoker to a crackhead in 6 months or a once a week pot smoker to some one who does every drug out there on a somewhat regular basis but can stop at any time and is still completely functional. People with addictive personalities are much more likely to abuse drugs and go through the process quickly and more harshly than people with self-control that can do many different things without acting obsessive and compulsive. The term instant gratification applies directly to the differen
Through out my paper I’ve discussed the addiction process, stages, and personal experiences of drug and alcohol addiction. In addition given my views and stand point on different addictions and prescription drugs. Also treatment options for those trying to kick their habits. If I could take it all back and start over I certainly would, and I never would have taken that first hit of the peace pipe. It was all down hill from there. I’m still young, and very optamistic about my future though, and realize what I’m doing to myself, and what I need to do with myself. If it’s going to be, it’s up to me. There are many different services and treatments available for those who are trying to kick their bad habits. In patient rehab, out patient rehab, 12 step programs. Various support groups, such as alcoholics anonymous, and something as little as a 1 hour session with a counselor once a week. People also just do it all themselves too…probably the hardest way of going about it. If your going to go about it yourself you need to quit everything at once….not just a couple things, because all that’s going to happen is something called the substitution effect. For example, about a year ago I quite smoking weed for 2 months. I was impressed, I did it cold turkey and it didn’t even seem to phase me. I thought I was doing great, I didn’t realize though that when I quite smoking my drinking about doubled. Then eventually I started smoking full time again but the drinking stayed right where it was. So all I did was make things worse by trying to only eliminate part of the problem. So I learned that if it’s going to happen it needs to be everything at once. On the streets many addicts crunch up adderall and snort to get the high quicker, and with with a little more kick. The reason its getting so popular is the fantastic high you get from it. It puts people in a great mood. You
