Digital Media

Digital Effects are now viewed in many movies if not all. Many audiences now expect to view amazing effects, which puts them right into the action as special effects today have come a long way. These effects allow us to experience a movie in a unique way. Effects are important in many movies as they enhance the way characters, settings, and most importantly how scenes look.

Today’s special effects are made to appear realistic to the audience. There is a long process that enables effects to be viewed. This process begins with a collection of approximately thirty still cameras set up around a particular object. When the action is frozen all the thirty cameras fire at once. The cameras capture images they are played one after another to show a rotation. During the film "The Matrix," filmmakers used a different technique to accomplish effects that are much more advanced. For this technique rotation occurs but at the same time the actor is moving in slow motion. There are around five different techniques used for the special effects that create the final creation. A large number of still cameras capture the scene, but they work sequentially around the actor instead of shooting all at the same time. F

or many special effects cameras film the actor with a green screen background behind them. If an actor has to appear in the air they will wear a suspended wire from the ceiling to help achieve this look. When this scene has been completed software is used to allow a slow motion effect. A filmmaker may use the software to slow or speed up the action. After this the backgrounds are computer generated and then they are superimposed onto a film. Finally a technician is used to perfect the images to stop the scene looking rough and avoid having wires visible. The technician also builds a 3-D computer model of the computer-generated scene.

Special effects are hardly associated with the environment as computers are the main use for the design process. There are some environmental impacts where paper is concerned. Paper may be used for drafts and drawings but as time moves on more and more is being done on computers using the appropriate software. Because of this the use of paper is slowly decreasing. However computers may be thrown away when newer and faster computer models are available. Which affects the environment, as the computers need to be stored somewhere. But computer parts may be recycled to avoid environmental harm.
