Am I Sexy
What is it that a young man finds attractive in a young woman? Is it her eyes? Is it her breast, legs, or her butt? Do men find an intelligent brain sexy, or is it a winning personality that gets them hooked? Why do young women try to make themselves look sexy to attract young men? It has been a growing practice among young women to alter their body parts to become more appealing to the opposite sex. Why are some women dissatisfied with their physical appearance? Is it because of the way males in today’s society has portrayed the way a woman should be? Male rappers and R&B singers have exploited females through their lyrics and showing them half-dressed in their videos. Many songs by male artist have a tendency to degrade women through their lyrics. In some songs, women are referred to as bitches and hoes, and are expected to be sexual concubines, which in many ways is not a compliment. In the song,’ back That Ass Up”, the rapper Juvenile has a line that says, “Hoe who is u playing with back that ass up” (Back That Ass Up). This statement not only shows disrespect for the young woman, it clearly indicates that he is only interested in the woman for her backside and her ability to shake it simulating sex. Is this wh
at it takes to make him want to have sex with her? Are these the measure women have to go through to get a man’s attention for the moment? This song is an excellent example of women being portrayed as sex objects. Another song that emphasizes the structure of a woman body is the Thong Song, by Sisqo. The lyrics in this song encourage women to wear a thong because men think thongs are sexy. The song says, “She had dumps like a truck, thighs like what, baby move your butt, all night long, let me see that thong,” (Thong Song). These lyrics are pin pointing women’s physical attributes, but nothing about their intellects at all. The song is saying that if you wear a thong and dance sexy, men will be attracted to you. So why is that men want women who can move their butts? Is it because they might feel inferior to a woman that has a head on her shoulders? Are women only worth looking at and having sexually? In the United States sex sells, but it seems the women have to be sexier than men are. It seems that a man can be overweight and not really worry about it, but if a woman is five pounds over-weight there, she is unhappy with her self. Why does our society think like this? The movie, “Working”, a hooker reflects about her life as a working girl. It seems that the reason she went to this job is, because it made her feel better about herself. The woman in the story says, “I understood very clear they were not attracted to me for what I was, but as a sex object. I was attractive.” (Roberta Victor, Te
