There are many difference and similarities between the Ottoman Empire and ancient Egypt. Founded in the thirteenth century, the Ottoman Empire finally fell in the early twentieth century. The ancient Egyptians on the other hand, lasted only a thousand years. I"m going to look at five different parts of their culture, which are government, agriculture, art, science and religion.
Government.
Monarchies, also known as a single person powered government, ruled both the Egyptians and the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman ruler was referred to as a sultan and was acknowledged as the legal successors of Mohammed. The ruler in Egypt was known as a pharaoh and was considered to have a god's blood. Both the sultan and the pharaoh were the head of the entire empire and military. To protect Egyptians from invasion, or defrates, they held a more steady government that upheld it's natural boundaries.
Agriculture.
Both of these Middle Eastern cultures need to base their agriculture around a body of water. Along the Nile River were the Egyptians. The Nile River was the base of the Egyptians culture, without it they could not have had a civilization. The river made it possible for them to grow crops four times a year (Defrates). The Egyptian's economy was largely based on agriculture. Wheat, barley, flax, raised sheep, and cattle were the mains of their agriculture. They imported ivory, species, copper, and wood. They exported glassware, linen, and clay vases. The Ottoman Empire had the fertile cresant but because of its size it also had other areas where it grew crops too like wheat, corn, and barley. They also had other places like Crimea peninsula where they had vineyards and fruit orchards.
Art.
Considering that both empires had a long and decorated history its" only logical that they have some type of art to represent their empires. The Ottoman Empire built bridges, mosques, and palaces (Microsoft). Their carpets were the most famous throughout Europe and Marco Polo noted the fine quality of Turkish carpets in his writings in 1271 (Turkish).
