Our society, that has invented and mostly accepted abortion, has said some astonishing things about it. Abortion is posed as a solution for women from problems that might be caused from having a child like poverty, disability, lack of educational opportunities, employers’ failures to accommodate working mothers, non-supporting fathers, etc (Cozic 25). Society has decided that it doesn’t matter that an unborn child is a live human being; it does not have a right to live (Cozic 115). The court has decided that the unborn child is not a member of the human family as well. Not many people would be proud to argue that since the unborn baby humans are smaller

There has been much controversy over the laws concerning abortion. Whether it should be legal or not and how developed of a fetus should be illegal to perform an abortion on. The law says that in the first trimester, if the woman decided to have an abortion, she can do so with consent of her doctor. In the second trimester or when the fetus is viable (able to live outside the womb), all abortions are prohibited unless in a case where the woman’s health or life would be endangered (Butler 249). So, it is said that how far along a pregnancy is determines whether a baby is human and has the right not to die or is deprived of it. The baby at any point from conception is a human being also, and deserves equal rights as the rest. The United States Constitution states, “that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” (Cozic 114). The unborn child should not be denied its right to life without the question of acceptance from its mother. It is an inalienable right that cannot be taken away and comes with the dignity of human beings (Cozic 115).

The psychological effects on the women that have abortions are dreadful. As accounted for in many personal stories, women say that it was a horrible experience and they would not do it again (Aborted Women). They advise others to not have an abortion because it does affect lives drastically and in a very negative way. Soon after a partial birth abortion, some women reported remembering the awful sound of the suction machine even though they were under sedation, some even having nightmares about it. Studies show that depression increased in women during the years after the abortion, being the worst after two years (Bower 117). Part of the depression for women can include crying themselves to sleep every night. Also, many depressed women go through a stage of heavy guilt and feeling like a murderer of their baby child. A comment from one is that it significantly lowers a woman’s self esteem (Bower 117).
