Arguing Terrorism

Terrorism must be stopped by any means necessary. But to first do this one must be educated on the topic of terrorism, the terrorists groups involved in terrorist attacks, the past of terrorism, and the present and future of terrorism. Terrorism is an anti-democratic, anti-law life style and our lifestyle makes us susceptible to terrorist attacks, which is the dispute for arguing, America’s weak spot, and a good reason why the government should establish a national ID card system. Arguments make the mind sharper, and every time we fight the urge to panic and help someone else regain balance, we may better prepare ourselves for the future. When our country attacks the foreign powers that reign terror on the innocent people of other countries, it opens the terrorist’s eyes to our vulnerability. America’s “Achilles’ Heel” would most likely be Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Terrorism covert attacks. National ID cards have long been advocated as a means to enhance national security, unmask potential terrorists, and guard against illegal immigrants. Who decides on what stays and what goes, what matters and what isn’t relevant? That person is whom our fate is really de

Covert delivery goes by many names: unconventional, paramilitary, secret, and terrorist, among others. The defining element of a hidden attack is that the weapon is delivered against its target in a manner that cannot be distinguished from normal every day activity. Covert NBC delivery methods range from the simple to complex, and can be done by anyone with access to a weapon. The threat therefore includes both states and non-state actors (including terrorist organizations), since either can obtain NBC weapons, and both have done so in the past. A covert NBC attack against the United States has a slim chance of happening, but would have severe consequences if it did happen. The safety of the cost is easily shown. But how low is the chance this may happen? Until recently, one might reasonably have said that the historical record contained not a single case of a covert attack involving a weapon of mass destruction.

While wondering if the chance of whether national ID cards will work, we look at three major issues. First, no they will not work and they will fail terribly. Second, Yes they certainly will work and their use will make terrorists stick out like a sore thumb. Third and finally, national ID cards will make privacy the next victim of terror. Issue one; the national ID’s won’t work. With the public still shaken by the World Trade Center attack and spooked by a growing number of anthrax scares, the clamor for tighter security is growing. Suitcase searches, closed streets, and a cop on every corner just aren’t enough to settle the public. A national identification card that presumably would separate law-abiding citizens from dangerous infiltrators is being promoted as a tool to reduce the threat of terrorism. A national ID card would tear away all of our constitutional freedoms. It would cost billions of dollars and be technologically imperfect. Worst of all, it would silence the population into a false sense of security. Anyone could get the documents needed to have an ID made and alter such documents. Several of the men suspected of the September 11th attacks had forged identities. Issue two: The ID cards certainly will work. National ID’s might well have raised questions when the hijackers were buying airline tickets, since some had apparently overstayed their visas. Ingenious new technologies such as smart-chip technology could make ID cards more secure, and useful. Why not make the national ID card voluntary and leave the government out of the whole thing. Putting optional information on the card such as your blood type, what type of medical insurance you carry, or whatever you need to check to see if its up-to-date. Thanks to technology it will be easier than ever to fashion a national ID system that serves security while maintaining American’s civil liberties. Issue three: National ID cards will make privacy the next victim of terror. Contrary to the first second issue, the ID cards would reduce privacy by creating a government-sponsored tracking system for all citizens. A sweeping approach like a national ID card system would do little to increase security, whereas more targeted strategies could be just as effective. Doing this would create a massive tracking device for anything you want to know about any citizen who carries one. National ID cards just wont work how the government wants them to work; there are easier ways to make counter terrorist actions.

When our country attacks the foreign powers that reign terror on the innocent people of other countries, it opens the terrorist’s eyes to our vulnerability. America’s “Achilles’ Heel” would most likel
