The narrators of this novel are Mario Vargas Llosa, Marito, and Pedro Camacho. Each one of these narrators is there for a different purpose. Pedro Camacho is presented in the beginning of the book as a short odd-looking man. He is very intimidating and also assumed to be very intelligent. For the most part in the novel nobody questions anything he does. At the end of the book, his appearance changes as well as the way people treat him. His new boss was ordering him around and yelling at him, something his old bosses the Genaros would never dream to do.
