Botanical Gardens
In the Fern Room Ever need a great place to think in order to get away from the every day city life? Well go to a great in door garden at Botanical Gardens called the Fern Room; a completely sunken grotto twenty-eight feet in the ground, with only a flat glass roof at ground level. The circular wooden floor when entering the round Fern Room feels very slippery because of the tiny sprinklers on top of the roof. When the sprinklers come on, the atmosphere feels very much tropical and seem like it just got done raining. Further ahead was the sound of water trickling down, which made me, want to walk to find out which direction it came from. A very beautiful waterfall came out from the limestone wall and fell into a small pond of water. Walking underneath the waterfall and touching it without getting wet was quite intriguing. The water from the waterfall was very cold. A little sign next to the waterfall read: “A waterfall in Chinese symbolism represents the feminine while a cliff or mountain is the masculine. While in the Fern Room for half an hour I came across Abby, a senior citizen that enjoys the gardens. I asked Abby a couple of questions about the gardens. Q: Why do you come to the Botanical Gardens? A: “I love all the beautiful flowers and it is a great way to get some peace back into my life.” Q: Which garden or room is your favorite? A: “ A funny thing to ask me because I am in my favorite room right now. The Fern Room is so clam and peaceful. It really makes me feel like one with nature.” Q: If you could describe the Fern Room in one word what would it be? A: “Peaceful. The Fern Room was hard to describe in just one word because of the many things in one but peaceful it is.” From out of about forty gardens to pick from, the Fern Room was by far the best and favorite one of all. It was very interesting to see all those ferns in an indoor room with a waterfall. Over 10,000 different ferns grow in the Fern Room. The way the Fern Room remains the same after the weather changes to cold, seems interesting. The room maintains such beautiful ferns all year long. working here for over fifteen years it has grown on me, like flowers often do. Now I love nature and love my job. It made me appreciate nature much more.” Q: What is your favorite garden or room? A: “Neither, I like the East Texas area and log cabin by a little lake . It is just a model of an old log cabin, no one has really lived there but it gives you a sense of how they could have lived.” Q: Why is this your favorite? A: It gives me the feeling like I Lived in that log cabin and I am just sitting on my porch with no one around bu
