Beowulf
Beowulf is an epic poem that has been told from generation to generation in the Anglo-Saxon culture. The poem tells about a heroic man, Beowulf, who becomes a legend among his people and saves a village in a time of need. Beowulf has many heroic characteristics such as super human strength and excellent leadership skills. Beowulf emerges as the true Anglo Saxon hero who risks his life for the lives and well being of others.Beowulf was a Geat who had great physical strength. Stories of his glorious feats made him a hero among his people. He is able to use his super-human physical strength and courage to put his people before himself. He encounters hideous monsters and ferocious beasts but he never fears the threat of death. His leadership skills are superb and he is even able to boast about all his achievements. Beowulf has many traits that make him a hero. He shows no fear in the face of danger. Whenever Beowulf goes into battle, he shows no fear because he is not afraid to die. After Beowulf defeats Grendel, he is crowned King of the Danes. His reign as King was peaceful until one of the Geats steals an ornamented cup from a treasury that was guarded by a dragon. The dragon becomes angry and begins to destroy Beowulf’s town, killing many people in the process. This would lead to Beowulf’s last battle. Beowulf goes to seek the dragon in his lair. When Beowulf arrives at the dragon’s lair, a ferocious fight begins. The fight only lasts a few minutes before Beowulf slays the dragon with the help of Wiglaf. Unfortunately, Beowulf also suffers injuries as a result of the battle. Beowulf’s injuries turn out to be fatal. As he is lying there dieing, he tells Wiglaf to bring him some of the treasures he has one by defeating the dragon.
