In 1926, RCA became one of the largest companies in America. The radio technology company began in Camden, New Jersey. It was there that it grew from a narrowcasting communication, to a broadcast. This is because it produced the National Broadcasting Company, also known as NBC.(13) RCA was joined together as a company with owners from General Electric, Westinghouse, AT&T and United Fruit, along with many other small portion owners.(13) Work in Camden was very efficient and non-confrontational for the employers at first. After time, the workers were upset with their wages for the amount of work that they were putting in. The employees began to strike and form unions. RCA did not want to deal with the

RCA still deals with the same problems with the workers. The strikes still happen and the people are still fighting for their rights. However, the business is just now starting to get organized and woman are feeling more power in the work place. Many things have changed over the time, and the company is still producing new ideas.

Memphis, Tennessee was the next move that RCA made. They set up shop there to produce one of the largest plants in the city. The plan was that the “better” labor in Memphis was going to surpass the Bloomington plant.(73) Memphis was just as happy to see RCA appear as RCA was to be there. The reason for the move, again, was the desperation of the people for a job. Again, they wanted young females for employees. Memphis was also a perfect location for RCA because of the low electrical costs. (80) RCA painted a pretty picture for the potential workers by offering higher pay than most of the other opportunities in Memphis. Almost directly after the company set up in Memphis, the workers began to unionize. Before the shutdown of the Memphis plant, rumors had already been circulating for a few months, so it did not come as a surprise to many.(92)

Luckily, a little before the plant in Bloomington shut down, RCA built a plant in Cuidad Juarez. There were three main reasons for moving to Mexico for labor, “…(1) availability of labor, (2)low unit labor cost, and (3)favorable labor relations.”(116) This was a great move for RCA because of the excitement that the Mexicans had about the new work. Many of the men of the families already was traveling up north to America for work, but the woman jumped at the opportunity immediately. Another plant was made on the American side of the border also so that RCA could go around certain taxes that Mexico was going to place on them.
