Christianity

On the threshold of the third Christian millennium, over 1 billion people worldwide consider themselves catholic. The word catholic is generally taken to mean “universal” although the Greek roots of the word mean “according to (kata) the whole (holos). In the ancient church, it was used to refer to a single, visible communion, separate from others, bonded together through the faith in the lord Jesus Christ. According to the accepted chronology of the bible, on the day of the Pentecost A.D. 29 is the supposed birthday of the Catholic Church. Jesus taught this faith in the country of Palestine during the reign of the roman emperor Tiberius. After Jesus died his followers helped the world accept the faith. One of the main reasons that this faith was accepted was the fact that everyone was received as equal. Jesus’ followers had a monotheistic view that one almighty God that transcended in three forms, the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. After the Son of God was persecuted for his beliefs, he was crucified on a cross until he died. It is stated that after three days on the cross he rose from the dead and formed the Holy Spirit. While in this form he would visit people in mind and soul. Jesus was believed to be in every

Certain ideas in the Catholic Church are desperate need of reform. Some of the reforms that I would make would be stricter enforcement of the rules and beliefs, instead of such a loose interpretation. There are a few major rules in the Christian faith that I think should be upheld and stricter punishment should arise if these rules are broken. Adultery, divorce, and abortion are three things that I think should have repercussions. With the instance of adultery it is a horrible way to treat somebody and only if it happened to you then you would know how it felt. Divorce, which happens in 1 out of 2 marriages, is all too common. If someone gets a divorce in the church, they should not be allowed be remarried in the church, unless there is an annulment of the marriage. With the delicate issue of abortion I personally feel that a woman has a choice, but when you involve a religion then I think it is wrong and although it may have to be done for whatever reason, killing an innocent person is still killing someone. I have ton of respect for other religions such as Mormons who do not pollute their body in any way, have premarital relations with the opposite sex or anything else that is against their faith. I think that is great and I wish the Catholic Church would consider making the rules stricter and punishments harsher for rule breakers.

Catholics in the world today play a major role in everyday life. Because of the way that the catholic faith is involved, and materialistic ways are the only ways, and profit motive is the only motive, the schism between the rich and the poor has grown greatly. The Catholic Church preaches to close the separation, but in fact is one of the wealthiest religions in the universe. With the idea of liberation theology, men of the cloak should devote their time to helping the poor. Instead some of these clergy are helping themselves stay wealthy. When the lord Jesus was around his followers lived very simple lives that included no costly po
