Christopher Columbus
In congress today, there was a vote whether or not to keep Columbus Day as a National Holiday. The majority of my fellow Congressmen wanted to revise Columbus Day, and make it an explorers day. However, I am in favor of Columbus Day, because the way our nation has flourished is partly due to him. Below I will try to explain to all of my fellow Colorado constituents why I felt this way. The first thing that comes to my mind about Columbus is the way he governed the Native Americans. Although Columbus might have been brutal and cruel in his ways, He established the first true government that the Native Americans ever had. He brought order to the Native Americans lives and established a huge part of government that is still used today, Currency. We should continue celebrating Columbus Day f
This is why I am not part of the majority in making an explorer’s rather than a Columbus Day. Columbus revolutionized our nation so much, that he deserves to have a National Holiday named after him. I appreciate you my fellow Colorado constituent for taking the time out of your busy lives to read this letter. If you wish to contact me, please write to the address below. Finally, Columbus revolutionized the goods in America, especially the food. Columbus brought cows, pigs, sheep, goats, wheat, sugar, and many more essential food items that are still used in America today. Without most of these items, Americans would be missing an essential part of their diet. Instead, without Columbus bringing new foods, the American people might be eating insect larvae and pond scum. For giving al Americans a balanced diet, it is our duty to uphold Columbus Day.<
