Cohabitation

The article that I used for this abstract was titled “Let’s Stop Harassing Couples Who Finally Commit.” This article talks about the movie “High Fidelity” and how every Catholic Priest should see it. The author of this article talks about how priests and parents are against cohabitation and how they feel it is a sin. It is a shame that some parents agree with these closed-minded and old-fashioned priests.

Parents do not want their son to marry a “tramp” but that is exactly what they, the parents, percive her to be since she is living with their son prior to marriage. God forbid that a couple has pre-marital sex. My cousin is getting married in September and they had to get a priest who would marry them. Since they live together it was very hard to find a church that would marry them as well.

The author of this article, unlike the priests he spoke of, is very open-minded. It is not fair to have to go through hours and hours of counseling to make sure that you are right for each other. To me it is pretty stupid in fact. If you love someone enough to marry him or her than go for it. No one should have the right to say th

Some people just do not understand that sometimes cohabitation is the only way to survive before the world of marriage. Cohabitation allows you to find out if that person, your selected mate, is right for you. This allows for what is common sense to me, a lower divorce rate. This is so because people can find out if they are ready to be married before they actually are. Sort of like a trial run. Many people now a day do cohabitate and it is almost a must, in my eyes, to survive a marriage.

Marriage is something that is very special. Whatever must be done to achieve a happy life, and a good start at it must be done. If that includes cohabitation and pre-marital sex, than so be it. There is no one that I know except God himself that has the power to judge anyone.

Priests argue that sociological data shows that that there is a correlation between cohabitation and future divorce. Well, show me! I have never seen this “data” before and if it is there, why not show it. Also, I would like to know how current this data is if it is even there. As far as what these priests think, they can’t even be married or have sex, so I think that they say all t
