Cold War
The Cold War is something that everyone has heard about yet most of us have no clue what the war was really about or why it was started or for that fact who even won the war. The Cold War involved just about the whole world but mainly the United States and Russia. After reading LeFaber, listening to lectures, and doing some research I have come to the conclusion that there was no winner nor a loser of the Cold War. The Cold War for Russia, was to ensure security, block out capitalism, gain power and improve their economy. While on the other hand the United States just wanted to stop the spread of communism which they thought would affect the world like a domino if they did not put an end to it soon. Germany is also another place of conflict during the Cold War. Germany after being defeated in WWII is divided. Berlin, which is in the Soviet zone, is divided into four sections, American, British, French and Soviet rule. When West Germany plans a new German state in their zones, the Soviets blockade the city. The North Atlantic Treaty is signed and Western Europe and North America become allies. This shows that the United States is beginning to get more and more support against communism while the Soviets are still turning countries little by little towards communism. “The dominoes fall in the Cold War” (CNN). The Soviet block begins to break up first Poland, Hungary and then East Germany escape from communist control. The Berlin Wall comes down unifying Germany once again. Near the end of the Cold War the Soviets begin
