In conclusion, I feel it is important to realize that these are simply a few examples to consider when deciding the morality of a course of action when a pregnancy occurs. I also feel that the whole person (i.e. religion, family, life goals, etc…) should be considered when deciding the correct route of action for a woman, but the needs and safety of the mother (and her partner if the situation permits, it often does not) should be considered paramount, and the rights of the fetus should be considered second. The woman is a fully aware, cognitively and physically developed being, whereas the fetus has the potential to become such, but is not.

Lastly, poverty is a condition that affects one million Canadians, but worldwide threatens eighty-five percent of the people in the world. Families can survive, grow and develop in such situations, but often with great difficulty and hardships. In such situations that abortion is an option, the woman must consider her ability to cope with an already existing affliction of poverty, as well as her ability to escape the already stigmatizing condition with a child to rear. The so-called “poor” already have enough difficulty attempting to correct their lives, and the right of a woman to a stable income, and to be able to grow and develop in skills and employment that they enjoy must be realized, and the option of abortion must be considered.
