President George Bush has requested authority to use force against Iraq, and is currently waiting for Congress to give the “thumb’s up.” Other countries such as Russia and France have voiced strong reservations to a new resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq. I feel we should have the support of the United Nations before taking any military action against a country that may possess biological, chemical or nuclear weapons. According to the publication titled Non-conventional-weapons Proliferation in the Middle East written in 1993 by Efraim Karsh, the term “biological weapons” is little understood and little appreciated by the public at large. Can we be creating a whole new situation without the support of the United Nations? In my opinion, I don’t think we should be taking on Iraq without the support of our allies. I feel we have enough trouble without making more enemies. But, there is one thing we can be sure of, with Saddam in power no one is safe. I never thought we would have to live in fear, I always thought the United States was untouchable! Unfortunately, I found out on September 11, 2001 how wrong I was! We have all seen the outcome of a nuclear attack. On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan that ended World War II.
