Wholesale distribution company annual sales are approaching $1,000,000, a point at which the company must consider upgrading their inventory management system. Currently the inventory records are kept in Excel Workbooks. Record accuracy is difficult to maintain due to the lack of integration of incoming and outgoing transactions. Many aspects of the business have suffered as the business has grown. Customer management, sales tracking, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, shipping/receiving and warehouse management, which includes inventory control. Though each area has independent characteristics from the others, all activities interact with and are affected positively or negatively by the accuracy of inventory records. Immediately required is a database for inventory management and control. A relational database will be implemented using Microsoft Access technology with a centralized server for data storage and Active Server Pages (ASP) as the user interface.
