Do I Buy Evolution
Many people have different backgrounds and that is usually where their beliefs come from. I grew up in a little Baptist church in Bricktown. My mother, being a very devout churchgoer, raised me on her church beliefs and ideals. One of the stronger ideas being that God created all individuals from Adam and Eve, not that humans had evolved from the local ape next-door. Thus, my entire life I perceived the notion of evolution to be a bunch of hooey. Since I was educated in the public school systems, no teacher would dare challenge the conception of Immaculate creation. It seemed to be against the rules to bring God into schools, so my classes never touched on evolution. In fact, I distinctly remember my Advanced Placement Biology teacher my junior year of high school saying that we were skipping the evolution chapter, merely to avoid stepping on anyone’s religious toes. Therefore up until this point in my life, I have never been confronted with any scientific proof that evolution was real. I was always open-minded to other ideas, but before now I really did not think about it much. As it turns out, there has been proof surrounding me all of my life, if I had only thought enough to realize it. I agree with most of what El
aine Morgan is saying in her book Descent of Woman: The Classic Study of Evolution. Most of my agreement comes from the questions she asks throughout the novel; questions that have been in front of me all of life. “What happened during the Pliocene?” “Why did they stand upright?” “How did the ape come to be using weapons?” “Why did the naked ape become naked?” “Why has our sex life become so involved and confusing?” Among the obvious questions, there are also the unspoken ones. “If female orgasm was evolved in our species for the first time to provide the woman with a ‘behavioral reward’ for increased sexual activity, why in the name of Darwin, has the job been so badly bungled that there have been whole tribes and whole generations of women hardly aware of it’s existence?” “Why in our species has sex become so closely linked with aggression?” Elaine Morgan’s novel is advertised to readers as a novel that helps recognize the true origin of the female, saying that she is equal to her male counterpart, and not an afterthought as sometimes biblically referred. Out of all my years as a practicing Christian, I never once thought that Eve was an amenity of Adam. I always recognized her as the female equivalent to Adam, especially after reading in the book of Genesis that God took a part of Adam and made Eve. Although Morgan’s novel covers a lot of scientific material and proposes a great amount of theories, I am still skeptical when it comes to believing the idea of evolution. Some will say, how can you not believe? Is it that you still believe in Immaculate creation of man? How can you explain that? I would have to answer yes, I will always believe in God creating man. I do not believe that we necessarily evolved from apes. There is no explanation for it, as there is for many things. Why is the sky blue? Because it reflects the ocean. Why is the ocean blue? Because it reflects the sky. Sandra Bullock comments on such a matter in the movie “Miss Congeniality”. She suggests that we live in a paradoxical world. Maybe so. Perhaps we shall never know. As for the female orgasm, the question at hand is that how did so many women not know of its existence? It has been aforementioned that the sexual positioning has just changed. Now that the male and female engage in frontal-frontal sex, the feelings may be different. In truth, this new situation may and probably will cause different sensations. Beforehand, sex was not supposed to be enjoyable for the females. But now that the sex is more intimate, the female is more pleased with the experience. The second question that needs to be answered is why do we stand erect? Of course there are conflicting theories. One states that we stand erect because becoming bipedal helps us outrun our predators. This is, in fact, proven false. Anoth
