My family culture is based on Irish Christian values. Christians believe that family is very important to their lifestyle. It is considered wrong to swear or use gods name in vain as well as having monogamous relationships. Family is very important to us and we spend many holiday gatherings together. These holidays include religious gatherings such as Christmas, Easter, first communions, and Thanksgiving. We also gather at occasions such as birthdays, baptisms, weddings, and graduations. This gives us a chance to catch up on things that are new in our lives. Father is still considered head of the family and mother is responsible for the home matters but in today’s society both take a role in economic status. In tradition children would grow up in a very tight household and only gain some impression of freedom once married; a girl would move away to live with her husband's family and a boy once married would be afforded the right to move next door. Most Greeks live with their parents until they are married. Family traditions are stronger in more rural areas and more likely to be broken in the larger cities. Greek families also have fairly defined roles. The father is seen as the head of the household and the women are expected to care for the house and family members. Yet as in most patriarchal families, it is quite often the woman who is making decisions behind the scene. Even in modern Greece you will see more men sitting in traditional
