Physician-Assisted Suicide (P.A.S)
Thesis Statement: Should doctors and the dying patient have the decision and the right of assisted suicide instead of the general public deciding for them. My three strongest reasons why people should agree with my essay. 1) The person who is dying should have the right to choose whether they want to go on suffering. 2) Oregon is the only state to have a death with dignity law. In addition, why do not other states follow Oregon’s way of thinking and make it legal for terminally ill patients. 3) Terminally ill patients should not have the fear of being a burden to their families, the loss of control, and the feeling of abandonment. The terminally ill person should have the right to choose for himself or herself. Most of the people that are dying have cancer, aids, Lou Gehrig’s disease (Amytrophic lateral sclerosis-ALS), Multiple scleroses, and myelogenous leukemia. When people face, disease of this type they should have the right to choose for themselves. I would think that all individuals would choose what is right for them and not follow what some one else believes. In addition, the physicians should choose whether they want to be involved in their patient’s choice. Should physician-assisted suic

People mistakenly believe that physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia are the same thing but they are not exactly the same. Physician-assisted suicide is when a physician supplies information and /or the means for a patient to end their life. This can also be known as voluntary passive euthanasia (VPE) and is becoming commonly used. Dr Kevorkian, who has promoted VPE and assisted in hundreds of patients deaths. There are several forms of euthanasia like passive euthanasia, active euthanasia, voluntary passive euthanasia (PAS), and involuntary euthanasia. Passive euthanasia is removing life support, stopping medical procedures, and medication, also not delivering CPR to a person whom is terminally ill. Active euthanasia is causing the death of a person through a direct action, in response to a person’s request. Voluntary passive euthanasia which is also physician-assisted suicide this is when a physician gives information and/or the means to a terminally ill patient so they might end there lives. Involuntary euthanasia this is the term that is used to describe the killing of a person who has not requested aid in dying. This is used on patients in a persistent vegetative state and will probably never recover.
