As controversial as the book is, the book does raise some interesting questions. Gore ask why America is not responding to the environmental danger signals. Gore quotes:

Gore’s persuasive writing style is a philosophical explanation of his personal feelings towards the environment. Environmental problems Gore encounters are treated as major crises, and the worst case is always the most likely case. Every topic Gore discusses is extremely radical and controversial. For example, Gore devotes a large section of this book to global warming. He alleges that only 2% of scientists disagree with him about catastrophic warming as a result of the greenhouse effect. Well, Greenpeace, a pro-environmental organization, conducted a survey in February of 1992 which proved Gore’s statement false. The survey was conducted by a group of climatologist which showed that 47% of those polled expressed serious reservations about the threat of global warming. Despite Gore’s claims, there is no consensus in the scientific community as to whether rising levels of CO2 in the atmosphere will lead to significant global temperature change.

In today’s society, we know environmental problems exist, we are just unsure of how bad the problems actually are and how exactly to deal with these problems.
