Leadership is the ability to act as a catalyst for people to work together towards a common goal. A good leader must possess a combination of many varying qualities. First, and perhaps most importantly, one must have the desire and initiative to want to make changes and to make things happen. It is necessary to be able to accurately assess a given situation and have the foresight of what could, or should, be done. The ability to communicate this vision is vital. In order to be most effective, one needs to be credible and knowledgeable, with a strong belief in ones own ideas and self, while at the same time listening to others input and taking their ideas into consideration. Perseverance and adaptability are imperative traits to have, necessary to overcome obstacles that are inevitable. A true leader is someone whom, by his/her personal example, compels and motivates others to action. I feel I possess many leadership qualities. As a sophomore my school selected me to attend HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference) and because of my experience at HOBY, I realized the importance of young leaders in the world today. Therefore, I am always striving to become a better leader and to practice my skills such as communication and adaptability. Currently, I am the Senior Class vice-president, the Student Council vice-president, a state cabinet member for CYF (Christian Youth Fellowship) for Disciples of Christ churches in Kansas, and the President of the South-east District for CYF. I feel that I am a good role model for youth, and am currently involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, as well as a coach for the Youth Wrestling Program. Lastly, others have shown that they see me as a leader. While doing mission work this past summer in New Mexico, I was one of three selected out of ninety others to be a lead work foreman. My coaches have also recognized me as someone who can lead and motivate the team, by naming me captain in both football and wrestling this year. I feel that I am extremely qualified
