My Sister, My Friend

It is incredible how a person can grow and change, both intellectually and physically, in a short period of time. My sister, Annalissa, has blossomed from a baby to a young child, seemingly overnight. Over the past five years, I have had so many experiences with Annalissa by my side, and I have difficulty comprehending the intensity of our relationship. We are closer than anyone can imagine a five-year-old and a teenager to be. Each day, I learn a different lesson from her, and she one from me.
My sister's vivacious personality is perhaps her most endearing quality. Annalissa is definitely a person anyone would want to be around, with her spirited attitude towards life. It is very rare to see a frown on her face, or her sitting still, for that matter. More often than not, you would be watching an acrobatic show at our house, performed by Annalissa with various cushions and chairs. I don't know anyone that has as much energy as she does! .
However, although she may be energetic and effusive at home, around other people Annalissa is completely different. She presents in a shy manner when she does not know the person, and she will not give them the time of day. Yet, once Annalissa is warms up to them, she opens up, and is her usual non-stop chatterbox self.
For a five-year-old, Annalissa is astoundingly mature. This is perhaps another reason for our close relationship. She understands so much more than people give her credit for. She is constantly aware of my feelings, and if I am unhappy, she is also miserable. Annalissa is very empathic to those around her, and is sensitive to others" needs. She never wants anyone to be depressed, and it is very difficult to stay that way when you see her smiling at you, trying to make you laugh. Her face is just so innocent and sweet that it is difficult to stay angry or upset for long.
Whenever I am around Annalissa, I realize that she I must be conscious of my behavior and my responses to her.
