The point of view for this book is third person omniscient. The internal conflict of the story is when he decides to read the books or not. He challenged himself to go against the law, decides to read them, and is later forced to become a fugitive. The external conflict is when Montag and Beatty get into a fight. He is forced to kill Beatty after Beatty wouldn’t stop talking about the punishment, and that fact that Beatty sent the firefighters to go burn Montag’s house down. Another external conflict is Montag vs. the Mechanical Hound. The mechanical hound stabs Montag in the leg with a procaine needle before Montag could use the flamethrower at it. The rising action in the story is when the old woman refuses to let her house burn down, and she lights her house on fire on her own, and kills herself. The climax of the story is when Montag kills Beatty, showing that he answers to no one now, and is on the run for murder. The resolution is when the city gets bombed, and Montag gets to help find survivors and start a completely new society, a society that uses books to learn, and not technology. The symbolism in this book is Clarisse; she symbolizes anarchy in a way. She is against society, and wants it to be back to the way it was, when firefighters had actually put out fires. The irony of the book is when his own co-workers burn Montag’s house down. The theme of the book is that you can’t change the past, and to stand up for what you believe it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into science fiction. This book very interesting, and it shows us what the future could be if we do not preserve it with the knowledge we have now, and not to let machine overpower man.
