Fearfulness
Fear is a condition of an anxiety and terror, which anindividual might experience towards themselves or others. In the play The Tempest by William Shakespeare, Caliban hides from fearful situations because he is afraid that he might get hurt, he states that: “Here comes a spirit of [Prospero’s], and to torment me/For bringing wood in slowly. I’ll fall flat/Perhance he will not mind me” (II.ii.16-18). This shows that Caliban fears for his own safety, therefore he tries to avoids the conflict with spirits. The play Twilight, by Anna Deavere Smith, shows a feeling of fear for others, that the Anonymous Young Woman experiences: “ ...it was a different fear that I’ve ever felt/[...] All I can think of ... one bottle,/one shear from one bottle in my father’s car” (p.156-157).
