"We"ll be right home," my father-in-law said as I was combing my hair. "Gabriella bumped her face, it looks worse than what it really is." My father-in-law took my five-year-old daughter Gabriella, to his farm in Boonsboro. It is a place that Gabriella loves her Pappy to take her. It could even be considered one of her favorite things to do. She chases the cats, plays with the kitties, and feeds the horses. Usually she has a great time, but it just so happened to be a day that I will never forget as long as I live.
My dad came to visit me, which since he lives in Greencastle, it kind of a rare occurrence. I was talking to my dad, just kind of hanging around waiting to see Gabriella's "bumped" face. I just happened to glance out window and saw Pappy and Gabriella pull in the driveway. He was driving like an absolute maniac, which is very out of the ordinary for him. He opened his car door and motioned for me to come over and help Gabriella out of the car. When I looked through the window and saw my innocent, helpless daughters" face, I though that I was going to be sick.
This "little bump" Pappy told me about on the phone happened to be a huge black eye that was swollen shut, abrasions up and down the left side of her body, and a dress that had several tears in it. "What happened?" I shouted. It felt like I asked that question half a million times. Gabriella was just crying and Pappy didn't know what to say.
"She fell off a pony", he said with tears in his eyes. I was speechless. My main concern at that time was to get Gabriella help. I decided that we could take her to Urgent Care at Robinwood, instead of the emergency room. Sitting in the emergency room for twelve hours just didn't seem to appealing to me at this point in time. I called my husband at work, and asked him to just meet us there. He knew exactly where it was since we were just there the week before to have an eraser removed from Gabriella's ear.
