Friere


            In essence, everything is related in one way or another. Some things are integral parts of others, no matter how far fetched they seem. An example of this is the idea of how education has the ability to liberate.
             Freire believed that there were two types of education apparent in this world. The first is the banking style of education. The basic idea is that there is a teacher, the oppressor, who possesses all knowledge. The students, who have no free will, then have bestowed upon them the limitless information that said teacher possesses. They are given no chance to question what information the omniscient teacher teaches to them and therefore have no free will to make decisions or to think outside the box. Also, the only one who thinks is the teacher, the students are only thought about. The teacher makes all decisions for the students, and therefore also doles out any disciplinary actions necessary to the meek students. Since the teacher is all knowing and already makes all decisions for the students, they often confuse the authority of knowledge with their professional authority. The most interesting aspect of this theory sis the fact that the teacher is the subject of the learning process, not the students, since the students don't have the ability to freely think and question what they are being told.
             The second style of teaching posed by Freire's ideas is problem posing. In this state, the teacher and students are equals. At times, the teacher is learning form the students, rather than the reverse. Often, students are learning form each other. Decisions are made as a whole with the teacher casting an equal vote ass any student. Freethinking is encouraged, as are questions. Thinking outside the box is almost mandatory so as to allow students to liberate their thinking.
             Freire also felt that there was no common ground between the two styles of teaching. One could not have information taught to them by a teacher with a strong grasp on his subject matter and then be allowed to pose relevant questions to that teacher.
